These are just a few of the days humans prophesied as bringing catastrophic events that would end the world. We predicted nuclear warfare. Drastic climate change. A call from God.

We were wrong.

Cue the gargoyle invasion—laboratory bred mutants designed to slaughter humans. When the government goes AWOL and gargoyles are swarming by the hundreds, it's up to the citizens of the United States to regroup and save themselves.

Meet Cliff Matthews, a teenage boy separated from his entire family with the exception of his younger sister, whom he is desperate to keep alive. Along the quest to save their lives, he encounters people who aren't all that they seem. Everyday's a battle, but if he can't trust his own species, where does that leave his family?

And we can't forget the man who may be willing to sacrifice Cliff's life, if it means world domination.

In terms of doomsday, no one could've seen this coming. The dawn of the apocalypse…

Have you read a book with gargoyles in it?  If not, well my friend, this book is a great place to start. The story starts off with Cliff at the subway station, waiting to aboard the next train. With only a few minutes to spare, his sisters, Angel and Andy beg to go to the washroom. Of course as a brother, he guides them to the washroom, leaving his family behind. Little did they know that's when chaos started to arise.

This book reminded me of Gone by Michael Grant - which by all means isn't bad. It's not that they had similar plot lines because that was not the case. It was that the same rush and thrill I had when I read Gone, I experienced in this book. Definitely a star for that. I liked how the characters were always on the run. They had several different locations which gave me more of a broad imagination of what the world was like.

There are only a few books that execute third POV's good and I'm proud to say that this one of them. We did get a few different perspectives but I wanted more. I liked Cliff's POV, but I wanted to get into Todd's head. Cliff is a realistic character. His emotions were exactly what any other person would feel if gargoyles were taking over the world like whether or not, he wanted to safe other people or just leave them be. I appreciated Cliff's love for his sister, Angel, even though I did think it was idiotic of him to leave her in the Ferris wheel when he decided to throw flaming newspapers at the gargoyle, who was only a cart away from Angel.

The ending was my favourite part of the book. It was fast- paced, exciting and one heck of a ride. On the last page, I literally tried swiping and swiping for another page of the book but it was already done. I was like, "I need more!" or "this can't be over!" There were a lot of questions left unanswered. Like what happened to Todd? Did he die? Is he taking care of Andy? E.S.P, please tell me that there is a sequel. I need a sequel. Desperately.

Overall, this was an excellent read and definitely left me impressed. For those who love survival or post-apocalyptic books, this should be number one on your TBR list.
